Who will win the NFC Championship?

Week 2

Despite a boring Jets/Pats game I took refuge in the fact that Brady was visibly frustrated by his young wide receiving crew. Payback for the Tuck Rule. Yes I am still bitter about that. Okay...where do I go with my line ups this week and make sure I avoid the dreaded Thursday night mistake I did last week which cost me the game.

Family League

Another round of double headers this week - Movin...Over Company and Bubbs - one is my younger cousin while the other is my uncle. Probably need to take it easy on the old guy - nah...he is also one that won our league the first year and has never sniffed the trophy since.

QB - Romo did well against the Giants last week but has rib issues going into Kansas City. Vick on the other hand did awesome in Chip Kelly's O and should be poised for another big game against the Chargers. EJ Manuel is on the bench but he was a draft pick set for keeping our rookie player for next year. I am going to go with Vick this week.

RB - Like many in Fantasy Football land, how does one handle the non-committalness of Coughlin in regards to David Wilson. Since the Giants signed Brandon Jacobs and Scott is hobbled a bit, I think Wilson is ready to prove himself once and for all. Daryl Richardson hurt his foot in the third quarter last week but is still the guy in St. Louis despite Pead being back this week from suspsension. Will lose some carriers I am sure. Mark Ingram was non-existent last week for the Saints. Despite reports from New Orleans that they want a more balanced attack I just can't trust Ingram just yet. Matthews didn't look that bad against the Texans but lost plays after the Chargers got up by 21 points. Looks like I am going to have to ride Wilson and Richardson for another week.

WR - Calvin Johnson and Dez Bryant are both no brainers to start despite bad weeks last week and Dez having a slight foot issue. The question is do I go with Britt against the Texans or rookie Austin against the Falcons. The Rams may need more throwing done against the Falcons. Guess its Megatron, Dez and Austin again this week.

K - Steven Hauschka will be my kicker and I will roll with the Rams D.

So my lineup in my family league will be:

QB - Vick
RB - Wilson and Richardson
WR - Megatron, Dez, and Austion
K - Hauschka
Def - Rams

Movin...over Company lineup

QB - Peyton Manning
RB - D. Williams and AP
WR - Colston, Edelman, and A. Brown
K - Dawson
Def - Vikings

Will be a tough one but I don't think I win this one though.

Bubbs lineup

QB - Brees
RB - Law Firm and Murray
WR - Wayne, L. Moore, and Finley
K Walsh
Def - Broncos

Despite Brees big potential I think I have this one by at least a touchdown.

Fantasy Football Junkie League (nfl.com)

After a tough lose last week where I saw Spiller, Foster and Dez all lay eggs I am hoping for a rebound game this week against my oldest son.

QB - Matt Ryan gets the Rams this week. Despite a tough Rams D, Ryan is rock solid in the Georgia Dome. Romo is my other option and with bruised ribs I think I should stick with Matt Ryan

RB - Foster as a bit of disappointment last week and lost time to Tate. Not seeing that happening this week. CJ Spiller was a bit dinged up but should be ready to go and hopefully they run him until he pukes this week. C. Johnson didn't do much last week nor did I have high expectations for him. Texans D won't make this much easier this week either. Mark Ingram, as I said before, is in a tough running back by committee team that likes to ride the hot hand. I picked up J. Bell after Vareen went down but is he up for a repeat performance? Since I have to start 2 RB and get a flex position to put a RB in it looks like Foster, Spiller and Johnson.

WR - Dez  and Graham are no brainers but I do face a dilemna in this smaller 8 team league as I have Nicks, Wallace and Amendola on the bench. But I will go with Dez and Graham again this week.

The Pats D already put up a 16 point spot for me and if I can get Walsh to equal that would be awesome.

QB - Ryan
RB - Foster and Spiller
WR/TE - Dez and Graham
Flex - Johnson
K - Walsh
D - Pats

The Dragons line up

QB - Luck
RB Wilson and Ridley - ouch 4 pts only from Ridley
WR = Julio, White
Flex - AJ
K - Hartley
D - 49ers

I think I am looking pretty well set for this game.

Yahoo League

First time playing individual D players and I won convincingly in my first game. Let's see if I can run the table!

QB - We get the luxury of starting two in this league and since I only have three it shouldn't be too tough to pick from. Palmer did well for me last week scoring over 30 points and this week get a not so great Lions secondary. Don't let the stat line fool you, Ponder is no Palmer. Flacco had a decent day as well against the Donkeys and this week gets the Browns where he typically doesn't do very well. For that reason I am thinking about using EJ Manuel as the other QB position. The Panthers D did play well last week and Manuel is a rookie..hhmmm..I think I will stick with Palmer and Flacco.

RB - AP is a no brainer. We only have to start 1 RB with the option of starting 2 others but then that means one less QB. My other choices are D. Richardson who has  foot injury but will start or Lamar Miller who is splitting carriers in Miami. AP and Richardson will be the choices.

WR - Have to start 2 of these guys and it isn't real tough since we only get three bench players. Marshall faces a pathetic secondary in the Vikings while Julio will face a little tougher D but still should get 15 points this week. My other WR is Harvin who I took as the last pick so when he is ready to come back I have him.

K Vinateri

D - Team D will be Atlanta with Bobby Wagner and Patrick Willis being my individual guys.

Frozen Tundra line up

QB - Schaub
WR - Garcon and Jennings
RB - Law Firm
WR/TE/RB - J Cook
QB/WR/RB/TE - G Smith - only 11.26 points
K - Prater
D- C Tillman - may not play - D Hall  Team D was the Pats 16 solid points

Despite trailing 27.26 to 0 right now I am confident I win this one before Sunday night.

ESPN league

This is the league that I made a last minute change last Thursday that cost me the win. I went into this draft thinking Eagles and I got the three headed monster then I hear last Thursday that Chump Bailey will be out - he is out again this week - and I switch Jackson out and put in Torrey Smith. I talked myself into that one..ugh!

QB - Vick was awesome last week but did look to get dinged up on his last run. They get the Dolts and Vick should have another great game. Flacco is my other choice and has never really done great against the Browns. Vick will start.

RB - McCoy will be a no brainer to start. D. Richardson should top 13 points against the Falcons despite Pead being back. David Wilson best bring his game this week or Scott or Jacobs will have his job. Mendenhall did okay last week but still hasn't proven anything yet. Daniel Thomas outscored Lamar Miller last week but that is only good if they are playing each other.

WR - With Amendola hurt that leaves DeSean Jackson, Torrey Smith, Miles Austin or Kenny Britt to fill the two WR spots I must fill. Jackson will start as I won't make that mistake again. Smith is likely to get Haden who is a better corner than any one in Denver. Austin could produce with all the attention paid to Dez Britt was a huge disappointment last week and doesn't look much better Thinking Jackson and Austin.

K - Hauschka

Def -Bengals

Dry Lightning line up

QB - P. Manning
RB - Law Firm and T. Richardson
WR - Megatron and Graham
Flex - Julius Thomas
K - Bullock
Def - Eagles

This all rides on if Wilson plays well and if Manning has an average day. Right now I am a 9 point dog but I think that will be flipped as the Eagles will put points this week and I should see around 55 points from McCoy, Vick and Jackson.

Week 1 Recap

Well Chip Kelly's idea of O shined through on Monday night and in one of the drafts I bought the hype only to allow myself to be outfoxed by inserting Torrey Smith in on Thursday night because Bailey was going to be out for DeSean Jackson. If I had just left my line up alone and gone with my original plan I would have won that game in the ESPN league. Ugh. The choices we all face.

Then again I shouldn't had to worry if David Wilson would have done what he was suppose and carried the rock for 20 times but instead he started the year off again fumbling the ball away. Now Coughlin is entertaining the idea of other running backs like Bradon Jacobs and Beenie Wells to replace Wilson. Just need to hang onto the rock little man. The Steelers RB situation is in shambles which prompted them to re-sign Dwyer the biggest loss there for the Steelers is center Pouncy is done for the year.

In my first league in playing with individual D players I faired much better. After watching a tough loss in the ESPN league unfold, I was able to sit back and enjoy the late game on Monday night knowing I had a sixty point lead and all my opponent had left to go was Gates. While I didn't get many points from my D players, Palmer, AP, Marshall, Flacco and Julio all put up a great number of points.

The Football Junkies league, playing on NFL.com, wasn't a great showing as CJ Spiller, Megatron and Dez all laid eggs this past week. Foster didn't generate much but I didn't have big expectations in his first game back knowing that him and Tate would be splitting carries.

In the family league, Megatron, Dez, and Wilson let me down. Romo did well but I wonder how his ribs are doing. The upside is that I do have Vick as a backup and Matthews ran the ball pretty well in the season opener. Troubling is that we start with double headers and now I am 0-2 in that league. Although I do have a shot this week at getting back to .500.

The waiver wire should be pretty busy this week in all leagues as people attempt to retool from some disappointing performances.

Week 1

Every week in my family league that I am the Commish of, I write up a my views on the match ups. The first three weeks are tough because we have double headers that start the year off with and I didn't get to it prior to Thursday night. How many other Commish's do this? Or is there anything else that Commish does that makes the league more interesting? I am always looking for ways to make the league I run more entertaining.

Week 1
Beaver Devils vs Rammer

QB -  Phillip Rivers faces a tough Texan D and doesn’t have that great of WR corp to throw the ball to this year. Tom Brady will have no trouble with passing the ball against the Bills D despite losing his top three targets from last year. Edge Rammer

RB – Jamaal Charles will love Andy Reid’s O this year and gets a great start to the year facing the Jag’s in the first game of the year. Ridley will see the rock but the Bills D is stingier against the run than the pass. Lynch faces a tough run D but will still see the rock 30 times this game so should put up points. Ball is the back up and with Stewart hurt, Rammer is left without a viable second option. Edge Beaver Devils.

WR – Garcon is healthy and the Eagles are not that great on D. AJ Green gets a tough secondary but Dalton faces tougher in the division. Gronk is not ready to be back so it is Witten or Oslen which neither is a great option. Decker will see plenty of balls and Hilton will top 100 yards too. Nelson is a question mark to start the season. Edge Rammer

K – Bailey will kick a few points this week. Zuerlein has a mega leg which could lead to a few long distance FG’s this week. Edge Rammer.

D – Chargers are going to get routed by the Texans this week. Seahawks will score at least 1 defensive TD against the Panthers. Edge Rammer

Rammer by 6

Kill Bill vs. Trex

QB – The last four time the Giants ventured into Dallas the teams combined for more than 60 points on average which means plenty of ball throwing by Romo. Rodgers goes out West to face a tough 49ers D. Edge Kill Bill

RB – David Wilson is slated to have a monster break out game this week in Dallas. Mathews will find it a tough go against the Texans D. Forte will find some daylight against the Bengals and the endzone while Lacy will be a bust against the 49ers. Edge Kill Bill

WR – Megatron will feast on the Vikqueens this week. Bryant will get Prince in coverage but it won’t be enough to stop the next Megatron in the making. Britt is a wild card – could be boom or bust this week. AJ still has the ability to put up big numbers and with the limited carries that Foster is expected to see he could be huge for AJ. Bowe will have a great day with Alex Smith against a bad Jag’s D. Gonzo is old and slow. Edge Trex

K – Hauschka will spend more times kicking PAT’s than FG’s. Gostkowski will see a few more FG’s than PAT shots. Edge Trex

D – Rams are a better D than people give credit to and will test the depleted O Line of the Cardinals. 49ers  D will give Rodgers and company fits all day long. Edge Kill Bill

Kill Bill by 5

Movin..Over Company vs. Weekend Warriors

QB – Peyton Manning put on a clinic on Thursday night and posted 50.10 points. Stafford will pass for over 400 yards against the Vikqueens but won’t amass 7 TD’s. Edge Movin..over Company

RB – Williams is the only guy to run the rock for the Panthers beside Cam but face a tough Seahawks D. AP will be the main source of production for the Vikqueens O and should top 190 yards on Sunday. CJ Spiller will have two TD’s – one on the ground and one via the air – by half against the Pats. Jackson is poised to be the top back this year but the Saints game could become a track meet. Edge Weekend Warriors.

WR – White is a bit dinged up but will be on the field. Colston is set for a track meet and will look to stretch the field. Brown is high on Big Ben’s list and will see plenty of action against the Titans. Steve Johnson is healing up and should be a barn burner for the Bills against the Pats. Cruz will be on the field and score at least once. Julio is the man in Atlanta and should put up 18 points this week. Edge Weekend Warriors.

K – Dawson will get plenty of FG shots but all within 30 yards against the Pack. Bryant may be kicking PAT’s in this track meet. Edge Movin..over Company

D – Vikqueens D will get a few sacks and an INT but will give up more than 30 points against the Lions. The Pat’s D will struggle in keeping the score low and won’t get a sack on EJ Manuel. Edge Movin…over Company

Prior to Thursday I’d put Weekend Warriors on top by 3 but after Manning I don’t think the WR trio of the Warriors will be enough. Movin..over Company by 4.

Got Jim? Vs. Green Machines

QB – Luck will be able to pass at will against the Raiders but may lose out some play calling to the running game. Kaepernick is ready to prove to the league he is no fluke and will put up as many yards on the ground as through the air this week. Edge Got Jim?

RB – Bush is the missing piece that the Lions needed and will be a huge factor in the Lions scoring more than 30 points against the Vikqueens. Ray Rice had a decent game against the Broncos but 12 carries is just not enough for this guy. Trent Richardson will be the workhorse for Cleveland as they have few other options. Chris Johnson is eager to show he is the back but may lose a TD or two to Greene. Edge Got Jim?

WR  - Marshall will get looks and catches against a very solid Bengals secondary. Thompkins is a wild card but showed good signs in Preseason. Graham will play this year without a broken wrist and watch out! Amendola will get plenty of action this week and will erase Welker’s numbers from Thursday night. Jones will be on the field but will face a tough secondary. Tate or Little are not very good options though. Edge Got Jim?

K Bullock will get at least four chances at FGs – question is will he make them. Tucker already put up 9 points which is solid for a kicker. Edge Got Jim?

D – Buc’s D is not great but the Jets O is even worse. Pack’s D struggled with Kap last time around and will so again. Edge Got Jim?

Got Jim? Is a route – by 12.

Bubbs vs. Youngbloods

QB  - Brees will look to top Manning’s numbers from Thursday night and he may just do that on Sunday. Cam gets a tough Seahawks D who are used to seeing a running QB. Edge Bubbs.

RB – Pierre Thomas will see a few carries but will take a back seat to Ingram. The Law Firm will struggle to see a lot of action as the rookie Bernard is slotted to start. Gore will get plenty of touches and yards against the Packers D this week. Morris is the man but rumor has it that he may lose carries to Helu this year. Edge YoungBloodz

WR – Wayne is getting older but he is still cagey. Moore will be lost in the WR circus in New Orleans – could be boom or bust. Finley will be the main target of Rodgers. Welker already put up 18.95 points. Austin is on the verge of re-emerging as a threat in the NFL. Smith is pissed at the media so he will have a decent game. Edge YoungBloodz

K – Walsh will see plenty of FG shots – even three from 50 yards or more. Akers will kick a couple of FG’s but more PATS. Edge Bubbs

D- The Donkeys D already posted 7 points which is respectable. The Steelers D is not what it used to but is still good enough to rattle Locker’s cage. Edge YoungBloodz

Youngbloodz by 10

BloodLetters vs. Purple Pistols

QB – Freeman got demoted from Captain and his days may be numbered as the Buc’s QB but the Jets D will offer a big delay in that. Wilson will show his arm off this weekend and could top 250 yards along with another 100 yards on the ground. Edge Purple Pistols

RB – McCoy is set to have a monster year in Kelly’s new O and will start this Monday night. Martin will top 100 yards and two scores against the Jets. MJD will find room against the Chef’s in the first half but once the Chef’s pull away he won’t touch the ball again. Foster will be limited in action but those carries will still get him 120 yards. Edge Bloodletters

WR – D. Thomas had a monster second half after being shut down early in the game and put up 29.35 points. Smith chipped in another 10.20 points too. Nicks should be able to add another 10 points. Fitzgerald is very happy to see Palmer at QB and his numbers will reflect that. Vincent Jackson will top 100 yards but Williams will get the TD. Givens and Bradford are on the same page and will do very well this week. Edge Bloodletters

K – Seabass will struggle to get shots as the Oakland O isn’t that great. Prater put up 7 points which is okay. Edge Purple Pistols

D – Giants D will be torched this week against Dallas. Falcons D hasn’t proven to rush the QB despite signing Osi Edge Purple Pistols

2013 NFL Predictions

It is Labor Day and many of us are relaxing and enjoying time with family while some of us are looking forward to Thursday night when the Baltimore Ravens start the defense of the Lombardi trophy when they visit the Denver Broncos. With 9 new starts on the Ravens D, it will be a challenge for them to repeat - then again not many thought they would get to the Super Bowl let alone with it last year.

AFC East

The New England Patriots will take this division easily despite losing Welker and Hernandez. The New York Jets won't pose much an effort this year as neither QB option is good enough to win more than 8 games this year. Buffalo Bills could surprise a few teams but without a solid QB they will only go as far as CJ Spiller can carry them. Miami Dolphins made a huge splash in free agency with Mike Wallace. Unfortunately, that won't be enough to threaten for the division title. No wild card team in this division.

AFC North

The Baltimore Ravens still have Flacco, Smith, Rice, and Suggs and will contend this year for the division title even though losing 9 starters on the D from last year. Pittsburgh Steelers let Jonathan Dwyer go on Saturday which was a bit of a surprise. Without a solid running game, aging D and the loss of Mike Wallace the Steelers will amass 9 wins but it won't be enough to take the division. Cincinnati Bengals are the most intriguing team in this division. Under Andy Dalton the Bengals have made it to the playoffs each of the last two years. No major splashes in the free agency market but adding rookie RB and TE will bolster the team to the division title. Cleveland Browns will manage to win 7 games this year.

AFC South

This division is wide open. Houston Texans added a little speed to the WR corp while keeping the D intact and getting healthier. The big question is the new injury that Arian Foster has with his back. Anyone who has had lower back pain understands how easily it can flare up and most are not a running back in the NFL. Jacksonville Jaguars will compete this year but there just isn't enough there on the offense side of the ball to manage 6 wins on the season. Tennessee Titans are starting to round into a playoff team but Locker is still too green to lead them there this year. The team to watch in the Indianapolis Colts. Adding Bradshaw to the backfield will be what Luck needed to soften up the linebackers. Look for the Colts to take this division handily.

AFC West

This is a tough one to write being an Oakland Raider fan. I'd like to grandstand and hype of the Raiders but I just can't see them winning more than 6 games this year. Unless Pryor is the real deal and McFadden can stay healthy all year. Denver Broncos will top 10 wins this year but may struggle a bit with the lost of Dumervil and the suspension of Miller. San Diego Chargers will be challenging the Raiders for the cellar all year long. Kansas City Chiefs will flourish under Andy Reid and will take this division.

Division winners - Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots
Wild Card - Denver Broncos and Houston Texans
AFC Championship game - Indianapolis Colts vs. Denver Broncos

NFC East

This could be the toughest division to handicap. The Dallas Cowboys will have a healthy Dez Bryant and Miles Austin while having one of the easiest schedules. If the D can step up this is a 10 win team. Washington Redskins will go as far as RGIII but I see him struggle this year. Philadelphia Eagles will be the most exciting team to watch in this division. Chip's new up tempo offense will make the best use of McCoy, Jackson and Vick's talents but I don't think it will be enough to win the division. Despite losing Bradshaw and Osi it won't deter the New York Giants from wining this division.

NFC North

The Norse division will be fun to watch. Chicago Bears have a new coach that gets the best of his QB and that could be great news for Bears fans. Forte looks great and Marshall should give Megatron a run for the WR title. Minnesota Vikings lost a few key D players, namely Winfield, and added a big name on offense - Greg Jennings. Normally that would be huge, unfortunately not the case when you have Ponder throwing the ball. Vikings will make noise with AP but it won't be enough to take the division. Green Bay Packers have Rodgers but that is about it. Lacy appears to be the answer to a horrible run game but it won't be enough to take the division. The division winner will be the Detroit Lions. Stafford has no excuses this year as the Lions added Reggie Bush to the backfield.

NFC South

Carolina Panthers lost Johnathan Stewart to start the season and didn't add any speed to the WR corp. Cam can only do so much. It looks like another 7 game win season for the Panthers. New Orleans Saints get Sean Payton back this year. I know he is the coach but no one calls a game better and that will be the difference this year. Brees will be able to do his job and not worry about anything else. The D will keep this team out of the Super Bowl. Atlanta Falcons were oh so close to making the Super bowl last year and will get closer this year with the running of Steven Jackson. Tampa Bay Buccaneers will make noise but will struggle to reach 8 wins.

NFC West

The once forgotten division has a lot of fire power this year and could see three playoff teams. Seattle Seahawks plainly got better in the offseason with the additions of Avirl and Harvin -when he comes back - and will take this division this year. San Francisco 49ers added Boldin but lost Crabtree. Kap will still be a play maker but it will have to be a wild card winner if it does take place. St. Louis Rams are the most intriguing team. Bradford has two fast WR's in Givens and Austin. Richardson will show the league why the Rams let Jackson go. Arizona Cardinals could shake up this division if Mendenhall stays healthy and Palmer remains up right.

Division winners - Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, New York Giants
Wild Card - Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints
NFC Conference game - Seattle Seahwaks vs New York Giants

Super Bowl - Seattle Seahawks vs. Indianapolis Colts

Winner - Seattle Seahawks

The 53 player rosters are in

Some names had already been noted prior to the deadline yesterday but a few more surprises took place as the deadline neared.

Jets - QB Greg McElroy - means that Sanchez arm may not be that bad and Smith is the future of that franchise - still no word on who will be starting there though.

Bengals - QB John Skelton - not a lot of worth in fantasy land but interesting drop here.

Steelers - RB Jonanthan Dwyer - huge impact as in both of my drafts I have done thus far Dwyer was picked. It looks like Redman and Jones will get the rock until Bell comes back from foot injury.

Chargers - WR Robert Meachem - guess the two year stint has come to an end - with all the injuries in Charger land to WR one would have thought he still be around.

Eagles - OG Danny Watkins - a little impact but probably a sign that Chip is wanted to run that up tempo offense.

Packers - QB Vince Young - not that he was a threat to take the starting role, just a little of a shock that Packers don't want some insurance with an experience QB. RB  Alex Green - guess the rookies have shined enough to end the Green experience - I'd keep an eye on this guy though as some teams need help at RB position.

Panthers - QB Jimmy Clausen - probably the end of his career with all the other more veteran QB's cut.

49ers - WR Austin Collie - really shocked at this as Collie is a proven slot WR. With Crabtree gone for the season and Boldin the only proven WR on the crew - one would think Collie makes the team. He will show up on someones team.

Seahawks - QB Brady Quinn gone. Bigger surprise is FB Michael Robinson - perhaps Lynch feels a FB is no longer needed. This release could have impact on Lynch's production.

Final Cut Down Day

Today is the day that all NFL team must cut their rosters to 53. The deadline is 6 pm EST today but some teams are already starting the process. Some of the notable cuts thus far announced are that may have fantasy football impact are:

Jets - K Dan Carpenter - yes this is the second team he had been cut from in the past two weeks.

Bills - QB Matt Leinart - this must mean that EJ Manuel is going to be ready soon. Although they may start with Tuel as Kolb is rumored to be on IR to start the season.

Patriots - TE Jake Ballard and Daniel Fells were cut to make room for Gronk as his timetable to return will be sooner than originally anticipated. Then again some believe the Hernandez will beat his murder wrap too.

Jaguars - CB Marcus Trufant - why mention a D player - well because if you were thinking of the Jag's D you may want to know this - then again if you are thinking about the Jag's D you are either in a deep league or need your head checked.

Broncos - RB Lance Ball - not a major threat to get the rock this year but it does round the RB situation into picture.

Eagles DE Joe Kruger - not cut but put on IR and that could be a impact for the Eagles D.

Cardinals - OL Jonathan Cooper will be on IR to start the season - big loss for the O line that was to be average this year - leaves big concern for Palmer staying up right and Mendenhall running game.

Seahawks - CB Antoine Winfield - normally a big deal but with the Secondary the Seahawks have it was tough for veteran Winfield to make the squad. This could mean that the Vikings could pick him back up.

Stay tuned as more cuts will be coming down the pipe line not to mention who will be the starting QB for the Jets and the Raiders. Also, will Lamar Miller or Daniel Thomas be the lead back in Miami?

Cut Down Day Round 1

Today all NFL teams had to be down to 75 players in the first round of cuts prior to the start of the season. Everyone will be playing on Thursday for the final preseason game then more cuts will follow.

For those playing Fantasy Football the cuts today will have very little impact. Some of the notables cut don't even factor in but do include - TE Visanthe Shiancoe, WR Devin Aromashodu, WR Chaz Schilens, K Dan Carpenter, K Billy Cundiff, WR Braylon Edwards. For an updated list of all others, as of my typing, http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000233304/article/roster-cuts-for-all-32-nfl-teams

In other news with bigger fantasy football impact is that DuJuan Harris is done for the season, Mario Hardesty in on injured reserve, Jonathon Stewart is to start on the PUP list, and the Saints lost Will SMith for the year.

Just two weeks left to go

Just two weeks left to go until the start of the NFL season. Okay two weeks and a day. Starting Friday I start my string of drafts for Fantasy Football. On Friday it will kick off with an auction draft. Some players are already off the board as they were kept from last season.

The players kept are: Andrew Luck $15, AJ Green $36, AP $42, T. Richardson $38, B. Marshall $33, and D. Martin $31. I did not keep a player as I didn't see any players worth keeping that I think I could get at similar or less cost than I paid last year. Rumor has it that we will be down a few teams this year due to schedule conflicts. The annual drama around when the draft is going to be is a bane of mine. I just wish leagues would set the day and time that a draft will take place annually and owners need to mark their calendars accordingly.

We will all get $200 cap room to fill our 14 team roster. In this league, I must start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR/TE, Flex (RB/WR/TE), K and a D. Typically I try to get three solid RB's by allocating roughly 50% of my funds on RB's due to the flex option. Then again, there are a few second tier WR's or TE's that may fill the bill as well for that flex position. Brees, Rodgers, P-Manning, and Brady will all demand top dollar. If I keep $40 for QB's then I don't see I can go for one of these.

On Sunday is another draft that contains keepers. We are able to keep a player for two years in a row and up to two players a year but they cannot be from the same position. We also get to keep a developmental player if we drafted a rookie the year before That keeper means we must give up a draft pick 2 rounds earlier than last year draft. I didn't draft a rookie last year so I am left picking 12th since I won the league last year. No snake draft either. I have Megatron, Julio and Graham as my WR corp..I will keep Megatron as he won't last til the 12th pick. My RB's are pathetic - Stephen Jackson, Vick Ballard, Marcel Reece, Bryce Brown, and Wells. Question for this draft is do I keep a RB or do I keep Graham as the 24th pick?

Well back to the news sources to make sure I have my eye on all the updates. Some notable information that I read over the past days.

1. Cruz is on crutches - should be ready for week 1.
2. RGIII - sounds like could be out til Washington's bye week.
3. L.Bell - foot injury has him out for 4-6 weeks
4. D. Keller - gone for the season
5. Vick is the starter for Chip Kelley and the Eagles.
6. Weeden is the starter in Cleveland - wasn't sure that was in question.
7. Jonathon Stewart may start the year on the PUP list

Stay tuned for more updates as the week go on. Also, does anyone have a great auction value website?

Preseason Week 2 Saturday games

Another slate of games took place on Saturday but before I take a look at the local rags reactions and offer up some my own there was other news made on Saturday that may have fantasy football importance. Eddie Royal was taken from Charger practice field by ambulance and EJ Manuel will undergo surgery that will prevent him from playing anymore in the preseason. Now to the games.

Denver Broncos ventured into Seattle and took on the Seahawks. The Seahawks trounced the Broncos 40-10. While Manning should well moving the ball around, it was the running game that floundered against the stingy Seahawk D. After the game Peyton Manning quipped, "I don't know who makes those predicitions {retort to Vegas making Broncos odds on favorite to win Super Bowl} and what weight those really carry, but we have a lot of things we need to fix and correct. I do think there are things that are correctable. But we have to do it. We can't keep saying we're going to correct it. we've got to go out and do it." (http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_23886384/wolfe-injury-adds-list-worries). The D did take a hit with the Derek Wolfe getting hurt in the first quarter - early reports it was neck and spine injury - more to come. Russell Wilson and company moved the ball at will  and the Seahawks D forced turnover and pressured Manning to no end. Jermaine Kearse saw a lot of action and could provide Wilson with another weapon in the passing game.

Houston Texans beat the Miami Dolphins 24-17. Wallace and Tannenhill used the game to work on their timing and looked to start clicking. That is good for Dolphin fans as Wallace does have a good compliment with Hartline. The Dolphin passing game did take a blow as tight end Dustin Keller looked to injury his knee and could be out for the year. The Texans started off rough, but Schaub did end up finding his groove. Nothing really to worry about there as Foster will carry this team. Texans are still looking for a compliment WR to AJ.

Green Bay out dueled the St Louis Rams 19-7. Rodgers moved the ball around fairly well despite not having his top WR's. Main target was TE Finley. Nelson and Cobb are both expected to be back though for the season opener. The question for the Packers is the RB and it appears that but rookie RB Lacy played exclusively with the first team and didn't disappoint. On the other side of the field, the Rams are looking to see who will replace Steven Jackson and Isaiah Pead got a chance last night to show off his talents. Unfortunately for Pead 11 carries for 21 yards will not be enough to secure the starting job.

The New York Jets trounced Jacksonville Jaguars 37-13 mainly due to the extended period of time that Sanchez played. Due to injuries to Geno Smith and only have three QB's on the roster Sanchez played into the third quarter. Sanchez showed signs of brilliance then displayed actions that led Ryan to drafting Smith. While everyone is focused on the QB challenge a RB challenge is going on too. Powell looked to put his name at the top of the heap but Ivory is not far behind. The Jets D is not the same without Revis and Gabbert showed that as he moved the ball very well. MJD looked a little rusty but still should carry the load.

Cincinnati Bengals beat the Tennessee Titans 27-19. The Law Firm didn't play with allowed rookie RB Bernard an opportunity to shine - Bernard didn't disappoint. Dalton looked in regular season form as well. Locker and company looked horrible and could have lost Kendall Wright who tweaked his knee - as of this morning no local paper is reporting a MRI report result yet.

Finally we have Arizona Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. The game was more of a baseball game with the Cardinals kicker getting the most work out of the deal. Turnover marred the Cowboys all game long while the Cardinals couldn't finish drives. Unfortunately there wasn't anything really to speak of from the either O as they both sputtered along.

Week 2 Preseason Friday Games

Friday night saw another set of 4 games of action. A few scares took place as well during the games too.

The Buffalo Bills beat the Minnesota Vikings 20-16. Kevin Kolb started things off with the Bills this week and didn't play very well. EJ Manuel looked a lot better. On the first drive the EJ piloted resulted in a TD but the thing that was most impressive was he hit his fourth target after surveying the red zone. Christian Ponder looked horrible. Then again Ponder make look better when AP is the running back and not Toby Gehart. Then again Matt Cassell didn't look much better when he got into the game.

San Fransico 49ers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 15-13. Alex Smith did play the entire first half and looked pretty good. Chiefs didn't have Jamaal Charles - and it doesn't sound like he will play the rest of the preseason either - while Kap only played 3 plays. San Fran's D did get some pressure on Smith as well. Gore ripped off a 50 plus run against the Chiefs first team D.

New England Patriots beat the Tampa Buccaneers 25-21. The big question going into the game was how Tom Brady would react after banging his knee in practice early in the week. Well it didn't take long as Brady and Amendola show came out from the get go. Doug Martin got stung while blocking but things will be okay going forward. Mike Glennon clearly looked better than Josh Freeman in this game. It could be an issue going forward. Tiebow - not that anyone thought it to be - definitely won't be challenging Mallett for the second string position.

New Orleans Saints won 28-20 over the Oakland Raiders. Drew Brees looked great and found a new target in Nick Toon. Flynn didn't look at all comfortable and it didn't help that Valdheer is out either. Going to be a long season for the Raiders. McFadden struggled as well to get through the holes opened up.

Week 2 Preseason

Last night we saw four games of the second week of the Preseason. Let's see what took place and what the local beat writers said about their teams.

Atlanta Falcons played the Baltimore Ravens which the Ravens won 27-23. The Falcons first teamers had their way with the Ravens D. Julio had three catches including one for TD on the first drive alone. Jackson ran the ball like a RB with fresh legs. The only concern was that Roddy White left the first quarter with a sprained ankle. The Ravens O did very little against the Falcons first team D despite the quick hit pass from Flacco to Smith for a 77 yard touchdown.Mike Preston, of the Baltimore Sun, rips up the Ravens thus far by slamming the poor passing of Flacco and ,"we've heard about offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie and Courtney Upsahw being overweight and John Harbaugh talked about the Ravens having to address the No. 2 and No. 3 receiver positions."http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-preston-ravens-column-0817-20130816,0,3923997.column OUCH!

Cleveland Browns showed up against the Detroit Lions with a 24-6 win. Unfortunately for the Browns, who have already lost Hardesty, lost another running back to a broken leg. Dion Lewis will undergo surgery on a fracture fibula. The Browns also lost linebacker Barkevious Mingo left the game with a bruised lung and remained in the hospital overnight. On the bright side, Weeden looked like a seasoned PRO and may have found a new WR in Jordan Cameron. Stafford and company played terrible despite Megatron not playing due to a precaution with the bruised knee. Jim Schwartz said, "We were poor in all three phases. On offense we had dropped balls, we didn't execute, we didn't move the ball, we didn't have any explosive plays and didn't score any touchdowns." http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130816/SPORTS0101/308150123/1126/Lions-sputter-after-spotting-Browns-early-lead-exhibition-loss. Probably the best hit was given by Bell who took out a streaker.

Carolina Panthers fell to the Philadelphia Eagles 14-9. The Eagles have a dilemna on their hands as both Mike Vick and Nick Foles played well. Beat writer for the Eagles Jeff McLane believes that Vick has the edge over Foles. Here is his article on other observations from the game: http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/inq-eagles/Eagles-Panthers-What-Did-We-Learn.html. The Panthers looked out of sync and couldn't get anything going. DeAngelo Williams saw more carries this week but didn't do much with the back just averaging 3 yards. The Secondary created turnovers after starters were out to keep the game close.

The Chicago Bears outlasted the San Diego Chargers by winning 33-28. Jay Cutler, who was intercepted on the first snap, didn't have a good game nor did the rest of the offense do all that well. A few bright spots on D kept the Bears first teamers in the game. The Chargers first team was absolutely terrible..not worth writing any more about - which I am happy being a Raiders fan!!!

Rest of Week 1 Preseason

As I promised here are the other games that took place over the weekend. Sorry on the delay. The Carver County State Fair took more out of me than I thought.

Washington Redskins narrowly beat the Titans 22-21. RGIII, Pierre Garcon nor Alfred Morris played in the game. Kirk Cousins played well and got much needed time to prove his is capable to be the back up in Washington. Helu proved to be the hand-cuff for Morris with solid runs despite starting Left tackle Trent Williams not playing. Typically your starting QB doesn't play the entire first half but the Titans did just that with Jake Locker. The additional work proved a benefit as Mike Munchak has revamped the offense this year. Chris Johnson showed he can still run the rock despite the Redskins being out of place on this two big runs. It was good to see the speed. The surprise was Shone Green and his ability to make something out of nothing. CJ struggles - watch out.

Denver Broncos beat the San Fransico 49ers 10 to 6. Peyton Manning was out there for just one series and nearly got knocked down on the third play. On other side of the ball, the 49ers Offensive starters only played one series as well. Really unfortunate as we could see how the first team O's were going to operate. Broncos have issued on the O-line due to injury.

Seattle Seahawks beat San Diego Chargers 31-10. Wilson did play three series and was just okay, Quinn and T Jack played the majority of the game and did very well against the Chargers D. Manti Te'o was a non-factor in his first game and didn't get a tackle. That cannot be good since the Chargers D is going to be very bad this year.

Miami Dolphins beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-3. It was the tale of two starting QB's - Ryan Tannehill looked good and was moving well in the pocket while Blaine Gabert looked lost and struggled. It could be a long season for the Jaguars - perhaps they should have signed Tiebow! At least they would have two strong RB's in the backfield.

Detroit Loins rolled 26-17 over the New York Jets. Sanchez started off tough with an early pick six but rebounded to put up good numbers. Rookie Geno Smith played well until an ankle sprain forced him from the game. While rookie defensive end Ziggy Ansah made noise the secondary for the Lions were toothless.

The New England Partriots beat up the Philadelphia Eagles 31-22. Some wonder if Brady and company would survive without Welker or either TE - well Brady lead the Pat's on 2 80-yard TD drives.Michael Vick is in a battle with Nick Foles for the starting QB - Vick delivered well against the Pat's starters while Foles struggled against second teamers.

Arizona Cardinals pitched a shutout against the Green Bay Packers 17-0. Rodgers made a great throw to James Jones but only played out that series. Vince Young stepped in and did well after only being in camp for three days. Cardinals saw a glimpse of things to come with Palmer to Fitzgerald while they may have found a new RB too in Stephan Taylor.

Carolina Panthers beat the Chicago Bears 24-17. The Bears D showed up though with three first-half turnovers and a score. Outside of that it was an average day for the starters with nothing standing out.

The New Orleans Saints get back Payton as coach and beat the Kansas City Chiefs 17-13. Andy Reid is going to try to make use of Jamaal Charles this year as was evident during the game. Alex Smith will have the accuracy required to run the Reid O. After losing Joe Morgan earlier in the week, the Saints are looking for a replacement and it looks like it could be rookie Kenny Stills.

Houston Texans beat the Minnesota Vikings 27-13. Cordarrelle Patterson, the rookie, was thrown to early and did well and showed a bit of speed on kickoff returns too. The starters didn't play much though. Will look to the next game to assess these two teams a bit more.

Oakland Raiders sneak past the Dallas Cowboys 19-17. The Cowboy first D did well against the Raiders first team O but it was the second stringers that shined. With the WR and QB positions wide open, the Raiders may see a third stringer jump to starter.

The New York Giants outlasted the Pittsburgh Steelers in a boring game except for an exciting hook up of Eli and Cruz for a 57 yard TD.

The Buffalo Bills unveiled their rookie QB as they trounced Indianapolis Colts 44-20, EJ Manuel had a solid start with a QB rating over 100. Luck and starters just played two series.

Week 1 of Preseason

The 1st week of the NFL preseason is underway with just two games left to go. Thursday was the kickoff of the preseason, I understand that the Hall of Fame game was last Sunday, and for the most part the starters didn't play long. There were a few exceptions - Locker played the entire first half and Josh Freeman saw some extended time as well.

On Thursday the Ravens beat the Buccaneers 44-16. One of the big questions enter the season for the Ravens was who will step up as the #2 WR and how will the defense respond with all the changes and loss of key leaders. Veteran Jones didn't do much to separate himself from the rest of the crowd. Ravens did get a little scare when Pierce struggled to get off the field after scoring a TD but appears to be okay. The Buccaneers played without Revis, precautionary move, but for the most part - despite the score - the Buc's D played pretty well. Special team mistakes put the Buc's D in some bad positions. The Buc's got a little scare as well when Hillis looked to re-injure his knee but it is not reported that nothing serious happened. The bright spot for the Buc's was the play of rookie cornerback Banks - while it has little fantasy football impact it could mean the Buc's D won't give up 400 yards a game through the air this year.

Cincinnati Bengals beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-10. The Falcons saw a number of defensive defections from last year, probably the biggest loss was John Abraham but they did sign Osi Umenyiora. Trouble with the D-line is that Osi can't do it alone and they saw some sign of life as with the play of Johnathan Massaquoi. Other than that the Falcons didn't produce much. Stephen Jackson did little carrying the rock and the only big play for the first team was a bubble scream to Douglass for 40 or so yards. Under Dalton's leadership the Bengals have made the playoffs in both his first two years but will they be able to make it further this year. While the Law Firm will be the starter at RB, the Bengals saw rookie Giovani Bernard bang out some hard yards. Why is this important? Because if Bernard can prove he can get that tough two yards, he will become a TD poacher.

The Cleveland Browns beat the St. Louis Rams 27-19. Trent Richardson didn't see action and that gave Dion Lewis, and others, a chance to show their abilities. Lewis could be interesting this year as he was used a lot in the passing game along with a few carries. Brandon Weeden played well and answered a lot of the local media critics as they are singing the praise in the papers on Friday. With Stephen Jackson going to the Atlanta Falcons it opens the door for Daryl Richardson and Ishiah Pead to become the starter. Pead didn't help his cause by coughing up the football on his first carry. The biggest note from the game, outside the lack luster O performance by the Rams, is the dislocated shoulder of OL Saffold who protects Bradford's blind side.

Well I know there are more games left to look into for Thursday, I will tackle them tomorrow as well as the rest of the games. For the serious Fantasy Football owners, do your best to read the local rag's as they give great insight into the players and the games.

Keeper Dilemna

One of the leagues that I am the defending Champion, I have a dilemma on who I should keep or not keep as I will draft 12th in each round.

While many on the roster are easily discarded, a few tough decisions will need to be made. My ending roster was:

QB - Dalton and Wilson
RB - Ballard, Benson, Wells, Reece,  Alex Green, Bryce Brown, and Steven Jackson
WR - Megatron, Julio, Gordon
TE - J. Graham

Now I only get to keep two players but they cannot be from the same position and will cost me a 1st and 2nd round picks if I keep two players. One of the teams will be keeping Tom Brady and Marshawn Lynch.

In looking at a number of mock drafts I am seeing Steven Jackson taken early in the second round. I think a lot of hype around Jackson is the trade up in O's - Rams to the Falcons. I am leaning toward keeping Megatron - as I don't think he will fall to 12th in the 1st round - and Jackson - as I am unsure why type of RB's will be around at that point.

Thoughts....

Injury Updates

As many of you already know some big names have fallen injury thus ending their 2013 campaigns have been cut short. Prior to this past week, the 49ers lost Michael Crabtree for the season making the signing of Boldin all that more important. The question will be if Boldin can make up for the loss as Boldin is no spring chicken.

The Ravens in their quest to defend the Super Bowl title has seen a defection of defense of players through free agency and retirement but the offense got dealt a blow when Dennis Pita came up lame during practice over the past weekend. The season ending injury promoted the Ravens to sign Vishanthe Shiancoeto a one year term contract.

New head coach Chip Kelley looking to make his Pro debut with the Eagles this year lost an important weapon on offense when Jeremy Maclin tore his ACL during practice this past weekend. Haven't seen any new signing of WR's for the Eagles but I don't see Jackson becoming a tier 1 WR from this as Chip Kelley will lean on McCoy for most of the Eagle production this year.

Another season injury that will not get much play because this player is not a position player is the loss the Denver Broncos will feel with Dan Koppen. Koppen is the center that Manning has come comfortable with and being the fact that Manning has really only dealt with one other center, Saturday, it could pose a little disruption early in the season.

Draft Day

The Commissioner role of Fantasy Football league's can be a thankless job. Last year I was Commish of two leagues and it appears three leagues I will be this year. While I enjoy being Commish, it is a struggle to get league owners to respond to correspondence in a timely manner.

In the Randall Round Up league I am in the process of trying to determine a draft day and time that will work for all owners. Every year, with exception of this past year, at the end of the year round up party we set the day of the draft. Trouble is that even when we set that day, someone will always forget to tell their spouse or just completely space it out. The rest of the responsibilities of a Commish is easy to do and I find a lot of enjoyment in.

I didn't do it last year for the yahoo league, but in the Randall Round Up league I'd post a week in preview of the match ups, then follow it up with a Monday QB post and finally wrap it up Tuesday morning. Successful leagues are ones that all owners are engaged - whether its trash talking, making trades, adding advise - because without the interaction one might as well just go to yahoo.com or another site to play with people you have nothing in common with.

Commissioners that are reading my new blog - What are some of the things you do? What are some things that you wish worked better?

One can Bing or Google Fantasy Football and see hundreds of sites that lay claim to having an edge over another. Just as I do in my daily life of everyday news, I try to read several sources to form my opinion on the subject at hand. I also, when it comes to Fantasy Football, go one step beyond the traditional sites and check the local papers in the NFL markets to see what the beat writers are saying about their teams.

ESPN and CBS Sports are great for getting intel with the connections their experts have made but there are other sites with great insight as well. Here are a few of my favorites:

2013 NFL Season is here!!!

As we enter the final full week of July, NFL teams are starting up training camp. Here is a link to all the team start dates: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/trainingcamp.

Last year was the first time in a decade that I was not party to 5 Fantasy Football leagues. While not every year do I win the league I am, it is rare that my teams haven't been competitive to the point of still in the mix when week 15 comes around. By no means do I assert my self as an expert or all knowing when it comes to compiling a winning team year after year; yet I do feel confident enough to put this blog together. My hope is that people will come here and share their ideas, concepts and strategies on playing fantasy football. If no one wants to participate that is fine as well as this blog will be therapy for me as it looks like I will again be involved in 4 or 5 leagues this year.

In the leagues that I will be involved with this year, I won't be in one that has the same format. While all of them will be performance based scoring, the methods of draft an degree of Dynasty are very different. Here are the type of leagues I am:

  1. Yahoo league - prerank draft and no keepers
  2. Family league - live straight draft with potential keepers - can keep a player for 2 years
  3. ESPN league - Auction draft with potential keeper - 1 player
  4. Fantrax league - Auction draft with potential keepers - any # players based on salary escalation scheme.
My favorite style of league is the real Dynasty league that utilizes the auction draft with a salary cap. Owners in this league must keep room in the salary cap for picking up or trading players throughout the year. The next season owners can keep any or all players in so far that they don't exceed the salary cap with the salary escalation.

What is your favorite league? How many leagues are you in?
